Laura Frost Counseling LLC
A little about Laura:
Laura is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). For over 18 years, she has worked in different areas of the mental health field: in the foster care system, at non-profit organizations, and community mental health centers. Laura is well respected and has been a community mental health and private practice therapist for 8 years. She describes that her reason for being a therapist is “to walk alongside people while they discover the best of who they are.” Her favorite pastimes are baking, hiking, and hanging out with family and friends.
She works with teens age 16+, transitional age youth, and adults – people who are experiencing grief/loss, adjustment issues, parenting issues, addiction issues, depression, anxiety, OCD, situational and complex trauma. Laura works with people who are learning the process of ‘adulting’ as they move from the ‘this what I have been told’ to the ‘this is what I think is most important’.
She is trained in Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and the therapeutic process of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She has focused experience, including the evidence-based PEERS social skills group, with adolescents and adults on the Autism Spectrum.
Approach: For Laura, therapy is like putting a jig-saw puzzle together. Beginning therapy is when all the pieces are dumped out. Together, you flip over the pieces and see what is there – looking at your strengths and the things you have already overcome, as well as what needs to change. Together you find where the thoughts and beliefs may be anchored and work to disconnect the maladaptive ones, the ones that keep you stuck. So you can get to your goals. Together, you will work as a team to fit all the pieces together. It may take learning new skills, diffusing from unhealthy beliefs, adjusting perspectives.
Finding a good fit: Laura is a big believer that finding a therapist who is a good fit is paramount for therapy to be successful. Prior to making an appointment, you can schedule a complimentary introductory virtual or phone conversation. Typically, the first meeting lasts 15-30 minutes. Many clients appreciate the opportunity to ask questions, learn more about her and decide if she is the best fit. Contact Laura at 573-206-9029 or laura@laurafrostcounseling.com. I am currently in network with United/Optum.
